Why We should be Familiar with Different Wire Sizes for Electrical/Electronics Work? with wire size chart.

If you are an electrical/electronic engineer or even work as technician or a hobbyist, you must know the correct size of cables you are working with. This is very important for safety and good work.

  1.  For Safety! Yes, for safety because if you are installing some electrical appliances and you don’t know the exact size of required cable for that current, you will go for hit and trial. In that case if you select a cable that is small for the required current then there are most chances of cables setting on fire and in severe cases it can cost lives. On the other side if you go for large size cable then you are wasting money for no good.
  2.  For good work, if you do the electrical or electronic related job you may need to use pliers and cutters (pliers peels-off the insulation from the cable to reveal the conductor so that you can connect it where you want and cutters are used to cut the excess cable you don’t need). If you don’t know the correct size of cable you won’t be able to select right kind of tool for your job, this will waste your money and time. That’s why you need to know the exact size of wire you are working with. While buying the tools you need to focus on their specifications related to sizes on which these are applicable. Some of the manufacturers give sizes in AWG while other in mm2. you need not to worry because you are provided with the AWG and their equivalent sizes.
From here you can select the right size in mm2 or AWG.
