What is a Thermocouple/Peltier?

First keep one thing in mind that this module is called “Thermocouple”, not “Peltier”. It is famous by this name because now days it’s one out of two effects is mostly in use, Peltier effect, which is described below. A Thermocouple is a device known for heating, cooling and temperature sensing.

Thermocouple is used for temperature measurements in industries which is it’s only efficient application. For heating and cooling applications, scientists are still working so that they can make a suitable product, which uses less power and produce more heat or cooling.

Basically it was constructed by making a joint of two different types of wires (e.g. Iron, Copper).

When voltage is applied at it’s open terminals one side of module gets hot while other side gets cold, this effect is known as Peltier Effect.

If one side of module is heated and other one is kept cool a voltage will appear at its open terminals, this effect is called Seed Back Effect.

Due to advancements in the semiconductors side, P-type and N-type semiconductors are used as an alternative of wires. As you know (may be do not) we can control doping level in semiconductors and hence their electrical properties. Because of their small size and excellent electrical properties, huge amount of P-type and N-type materials are placed in a small thermocouple in specific arrangement so that it works more efficiently.

Module has some CODE over it let’s know about it.
